The movie AISHA got an average review from many critics as well not liked my any of my male counterparts. Many despised and hated the movie, commenting it to be boring, pathetic and a movie with a strong portrayal of Feminism. I respect their views, but, I would say the movie is more entertaining and interesting and there was no discrimination between male and female, so to call it a feminist movie . Just because sonam kapoor is the lead “actor”, it does not mean the movie is written from a feminist view point. The characters of Aisha and Arjun were independent and had different roles to play.
Though the character of Sonam Kapoor belongs from an elite class, but her attitude, interest, likings are like many other girls. She is a women kind. She loves to shop, get the latest designer shoes and grab all branded bags and clutches. Her character was adorable, she loved helping her friends out, match making for them and she tried level best to be sweet and patient with them. Aisha’s character had some spark that almost every girl could relate with. It gives me a chance to point out the reason why many males dint like it. Well, at the same time Aisha was arrogant and snobbish in a subtle way.
It was the basic theme on which the movie revolved, but I would say the character of Arjun, played by Abhay Deol was equally important and prominent as Aisha. Aisha bloomed out as Arjun made her realize the importance of life. She was aimless and confounded her self in unfortunate matchmaking. She was never aware of her “other “side i.e. her talented and emotional side. Arjun made her character more strong and demanding. But, I could not understand why boys could not connect with the movie. Men in reality do help women to be strong and to be more serious in life. Well, each and every character was given equal time and space.
Though the movie was based on a cliché Bollywood theme. The heroine is aimless, impatient and the male hero as a business tycoon, serious, rich eligible bachelor and a perfect match for the protagonist. The heroine undergoes a change as love changes her and makes her realize how the hero has always loved and supported her. Yet, the movie had its own charm, no where in the movie the character of Aarjun was suppressed by Aisha.I guess it is a time for the audience to accept movie based on women protagonist.
